San Diego’s city attorney is taking away hundreds of guns from those who shouldn’t have them

... Under California’s red flag law, enacted in 2014, a law enforcement official or immediate family member can ask a judge to issue a Gun Violence Restraining Order if a gun owner is feared to be a danger to himself or others. If the order is issued — and it almost always is — the gun owner’s weapons will be seized by law enforcement for up to a year. After a year, the restraining order can be renewed.
Elliott was the first to create a restraining order program. So far, she has obtained roughly 300 orders and 400 firearms have been seized, including roughly 40 assault weapons.
Many of the orders were issued against stalkers. Some were substance abusers. Others were suicidal. And some were struggling with mental health problems, even dementia. A few had threatened violence at work or at school.
One man threatened online to shoot up a gay bar and then kill himself. When police retained him, he repeated the threats.
Another told family members he was going to kill Muslims. He also hated administrators at the school he attended and wanted to “kill them all.”
Yet another got into an online argument about illegal immigration and left several threatening voicemails.

You know it’s purely political when they take the guns but not the person.

A term that should scare the hell out of you.

***the gun owner’s weapons will be seized by law enforcement for up to a year.****
I remember reading of a man who had a legal taxed and registered MINT Thompson submachine gun in his home.
Someone reported him to the cops and they raided his home, and confiscated his legally owned firearm.
After about two years of lawyers and law suits, he got his MINT Thompson back, rusted up and now worthless.
It looked as if they had sprayed it down with salt water every day.

Interesting there are no opposing circumstances noted. Only the circumstances to support her red flagging. That’s an impossibility that she red flagged 100% with no errors whatsoever.
Seems to me all these laws now proposed are more for establishing government control, which IMO is gun control.
What ever happened to “shall not be infringed.”

I’m disinclined to believe ANY of the accusations against those whose guns were stolen by the State.

Assault knives are every bit as dangerous as Fully Semiautomatic Assault Rifles. Assault Ice Picks are traditional weapons of violence in some places.

Before anyone supports red flag laws, ask yourself if you trust government.
If the answer is no, you’ll be red flagged.

People now prefer security over freedom. You will note that only guns were taken, not the individual. Which proves that the Govern is not concerned about anything except disarming you. While they are arming their agents to the teeth. Ever consider that one?

I wonder how many of those “stalkers” were guys going through a divorce where the soon-to-be-ex wife made false allegations in order to gain a leg up in the divorce.

Due process is thrown to the wind? No jury trial? Hello Soviet-style governance.

Anyone dangerous enough to red flag should be institutionalized where they can get treatment or incarcerated to protect society.
Yes, this is just the next step in firearms confiscation.

Way back years ago a guy hacked up a restaurant full of people with a Machete. I happened to be watching the local reporter coverage in real time on closed network feed. An overzealous reporter hell bent to get some news to use against semi-auto firearms ran up to the police barrier and ask an officer if it was a “semi-automatic assault weapon”. The officer looked at her and said... “Yes Ma’am, it was a semi-automatic assault Machete!”. She just locked up and felt so much like a fool she didn’t know what to do. Absolute perfect sarcasm from the officer and I still chuckle at that one. lol

Why stop there? Take away their cars and also prohibit them from going to shopping malls.
